Charleston Extending Opening Season

Charleston Farmhouse near Lewes

Charleston is opening its doors to visitors from today, earlier in the year than has been usual. This move is the start of Charleston Farmhouse, home of the Bloomsbury set, welcoming visitors throughout the year.

Now you don’t need to wait for the busy summer tourist season to take a tour and find out how Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and the rest of the Bloomsbury group lived and painted. So why not think about booking a break in the beautiful county of East Sussex and pay Charleston a visit. Short Stay Lewes has a wealth of fabulous Lewes bed and breakfasts and self-catering properties perfect for your stay. Furthermore, if you stay with one of us, you will get a discount against the cost of a house tour of Charleston.

As well as seeing the house and garden, there’s a shop to browse in and a café. There are also several circular walks to enjoy starting from the Farmhouse and free maps are available for these.

As well as Charleston, anyone interested in the Bloomsbury group may also like to visit Berwick Church, The Monk’s House at Rodmell (Virginia Woolf’s home) and Alfriston Clergy House, so then a couple of days is needed to take all these sites in leisurely. Find a fabulous luxury Lewes B&B or self-catering studio in and around Lewes on our Short Stay Lewes website and make it a relaxing break to soak up the art and ideas of the Bloomsbury characters.
