LEWES & VILLAGES - GREAT PLACES TO EAT

The Jolly Sportsman

Nestled at the foot of the South Downs National Park, The Jolly Sportsman is a hidden gem serving some of the best local food and wine for over 20 years. It is now considered one of the best places to eat in Sussex, featuring in major eating out guides. Our cooking philosophy is one of classical techniques married with local, seasonal produce, creating a constantly evolving menu that has a low carbon foot print. We have a stunning garden to dine in during the spring and summer, and cosy indoor dining with two roaring fires in the winter months. There are also four beautiful boutique bedrooms upstairs to make a weekend of it.

THE COCK INN

You can be sure of a warm welcome at The Cock, a former coaching inn dating back to the 16th Century.  Our family has owned the pub since 2005 and we pride ourselves on our range of good, home cooked food and selection of drinks including real ales.  We serve food lunchtimes and evenings every day and all day on Sundays including our traditional Sunday Roast.  We are easy to find on the A26 between Uckfield and Lewes and perfectly placed for visits to Glyndebourne.  We also have a lovely garden and terrace with views over fields to the South Downs plus plenty of free parking.

THE HIGHLANDS

The Highlands Inn at Ridgewood has recently undergone a fantastic internal refurbishment, to which we have just added a new al fresco dining area at the front of the pub. The pub has now become the first choice meeting place for townspeople to eat or drink. The pub offers an extensive menu in the formal restaurant area, with plenty of tables in the bar area for snacky food and drinks. The separate Sports Bar screens important sporting events through Sky and BT Sports and offers a separate Saturday afternoon menu for sports fans.
